Savory Umami Stew




Prep time: 10 min | Cook time: 1.5 hrs | Serves: 6-8



  • 1 packet Umami Sauce Starter

  • 2 lbs. Beef stew meat, trimmed, cut into 1-inch pieces

  • 1/4 cup Flower

  • 2 Tbsp Vegetable Oil

  • 1 Tbsp tomato paste

  • 2 cups Unsalted beef stock

  • 4 to 5 cups Cut carrots, celery, onion and potatoes


  1. Combine 1 cup boiling water with contents of packet to create sauce.

  2. Coat beef with flour. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium heat. Add beef and brown on all sides.

  3. Add in tomato paste and cook 2 minutes. Stir in Umami Sauce. stock and bring to a boil. Cover, reduce heat and simmer for 1.5 hours. (Alternatively add to slow cooker with vegetables and cook on low for 6 to 8 hours.)

  4. Add vegetables, simmer for 1 hour or until meat is tender.
