Savory Umami Stew
Prep time: 10 min | Cook time: 1.5 hrs | Serves: 6-8
1 packet Umami Sauce Starter
2 lbs. Beef stew meat, trimmed, cut into 1-inch pieces
1/4 cup Flower
2 Tbsp Vegetable Oil
1 Tbsp tomato paste
2 cups Unsalted beef stock
4 to 5 cups Cut carrots, celery, onion and potatoes
Combine 1 cup boiling water with contents of packet to create sauce.
Coat beef with flour. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium heat. Add beef and brown on all sides.
Add in tomato paste and cook 2 minutes. Stir in Umami Sauce. stock and bring to a boil. Cover, reduce heat and simmer for 1.5 hours. (Alternatively add to slow cooker with vegetables and cook on low for 6 to 8 hours.)
Add vegetables, simmer for 1 hour or until meat is tender.
